Prepraring Hiller-copter for transport In August of 2004, R.B. High Tech Transport, Inc. was selected to move a historic helicopter to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. The “Hiller-copter” or XH-44 was built in 1944 by Stanley Hiller, Jr. in Oakland, California. After retirement, Stanley Hiller suspended the XH-44 from the ceiling of his main production plant in Palo Alto, California. The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum acquired the XH-44 from Hiller in 1953 and then restored the helicopter in 1974. During 1997, the National Air and Space Museum lent the rotorcraft back to Stanley Hiller for display at the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos, California. The XH-44 has now been returned and is on exhibit at The Smithsonian.

Stephens Elementary School R.B. High Tech Transport driver/representative Will Kuhlman, teamed up with his son Travis' second grade class to share some of his experiences and help expand their knowledge of geography.

Will first sent a letter describing what we do and haul along with brochures to the class at Stephens Elementary in Bartow, FL. Then throughout the year he sent each student a post card from a different state, and even a few Canadian Provinces, which the class posted on a giant map to mark all the places Will had been. Many of these postcards were donated by the museums for which Will had transported fine art.

These cards included a brief description of what was being hauled and where Will was, along with something of interest for the kids about that area. At the end of the year Will brought his truck and trailer to the school for a very large "show and tell". The students, along with their teacher, were given a tour and the opportunity to sit in the drivers seat.

After answering questions, Will gave out activity atlas' and other handouts to take home. Opportunties like these are not only great fun for the kids, but gave Will the chance to combine learning with real life experiences while on the road that these students will take with them for a long time to come.
